The Little Things That Help You Own Your Ambition
Hello Fierce Ones!
If you are reading this you likely have significant ambition.
Dreams to lead the charge, take the stage, change the world -- starting, perhaps with yourself, or otherwise make a dent in the proverbial universe.
Perhaps there are moments when your ambition overwhelms you with its magnitude. Do I really have what it takes to revolutionize how we think about women and aging? Can I truly lead this group of smart, superbly educated people? Am I crazy to think I can make a dent in global warming?
And what you probably worry about is the bigness of it all, and how you are supposed to accomplish this big hairy audacious goal when you still have to prepare dinner for 3 hungry people, pay your mortgage, stay fit, etc.
What I have learned working with brilliant women is that it’s rarely the big things that prevent them from owning their ambition.
- It’s the little things.
- It’s the phone call you’ll need to make.
- It’s the networking event you’ll need to attend.
- It’s the question you’ll have to ask.
It’s the deep breath you’ll need to take.
You want the corner office? You’ll need to clearly ask your boss for that manager job first.
You want to build a profitable business? You’re going to need to ask that person on the phone for the sale.
Empires are built one 5-minute uncomfortable-in-a-good-way task at a time.
When you have the courage to take the small risks and execute on the small tasks, the strength to make the quantum leaps takes care of itself.
So stop asking yourself if you have what it takes to run the world.
Take a deep breath and do the 5 minute uncomfortable task instead.
