Fierce: showing a heartfelt and powerful intensity

Where I live:  Falmouth, NS

What I do for work:  I work full time for the Halifax Regional Municipality but am currently on maternity leave with my second child.  I am also extremely lucky and proud to own and operate Fitness Junkies, a small business that offers a variety of fitness options for locals. My ultimate goal is to create a vibrant, active, healthy, and supportive fitness community.

3 words my friends would use to describe me:  Enthusiastic, motivational, energetic.

My vision of a perfect Saturday:  I would love to sleep in, but who am I kidding? With two small kids, I am just really hoping to wake up after the sun rises! The Saturday morning tradition in my house (as passed down by my awesome Momma) is pancakes from scratch. As of right now, after the kids are fed and happy, my amazing supportive (and well caffeinated) partner, Cory, takes our three year old for some "daddy/Lily" time, and I strap my 4 month old son into the jogging stroller. We meet the running group, Run Junkies, for a early morning run through our beautiful community.  After a warm shower, it's off to the Wolfville Farmers Market as a family to eat amazing local food, enjoy the diverse and vibrant community, and listen to talented musicians. Of course, anyone who knows me knows how much I love a good nap, so that's a must on a perfect Saturday!  Then an afternoon of playing in the sunshine, exploring nature in rubber boots, bubbles, and kid laughs would round out a perfect day. The only way it could get better, would be to have my family visiting from PEI and for me to skunk them in crib (which would be near impossible with my lack of math skills).

My top 3 personal or professional WINS from the last month:  1. Getting out of my PJs before noon every day this month! This is HUGE with a new baby! Sometimes the small wins feel big!  2. Expanding Fitness Junkies by offering a Mommy & Me fitness group to allow moms a welcoming and supportive environment to exercise.  3. Hearing and seeing how members of Fitness Junkies were/are positively impacted by the community we have created. Every 'Junkie' is amazing and by hearing their success and seeing their strength and power, I feel ridiculously proud.

My 2-sentence definition of success:  Being successful to me would be running a great small business that spills over and makes our community amazing, active, and healthy. I also want to be free to be my spazzy, energetic, and foul-mouth self.....oh, and not worry about money!

The most courageous thing I did in the last year:  While in Las Vegas, I went skydiving!!  It was the scariest thing I have ever done (other than becoming a mom twice) but it was incredible once I was on the ground safe!

The advice I would give to my younger self:  Stop worrying so much and be confident in yourself. Oh...and take business courses!

A book that changed my life:  Nancy Clark's Sports Nutriition Guidebook. This book provided me with the right information to become healthy, balanced, and active which ultimately lead to Fitness Junkies.

What change are you working to create in your life, community or through your work? I want to create an active community where members support each other in all aspects of life.  We can be better as a whole when we work together, build up individuals, and celebrate successes together.

Where to find me online:  On Facebook: Fitness Junkies NS
